4September 19 Luncheon at Edith Nash's Home
Many thanks to Edith Nash for hosting without a doubt the "best food" luncheon of the year! Thanks to her great chef son-in-law Dave who grilled the best beef, chicken and shrimp kabobs. Click here to read more and also read Edith's great poem - Remembering Margaret Gregory. September 10 marked the 10th year anniversary of her passing. It is hard to believe that Margaret has been gone that long. We still miss her very much.
4November 21 Luncheon - Maison Bleu in Town Center in Watkinsville Roberta Middlebrooks and Martha McCullough have made arrangements for us to journey to the Maison Bleu restaurant in Watkinsville for our November luncheon. Just got word from Nell Foster that Mabel and Dennis left Saturday morning for Scotland and will be gone for about two weeks.4Jean Kammerer
Jean told us at the September GG Luncheon that she will be leaving soon for a tour to Croatia and some of the other Czech countries. Jean wins the GG prize, along with Elsie Laurens, for the most traveled member!
4Bettye Chambers
Bettye announced at the September luncheon that she has recently been called by the Governor's office and asked to submit her application to serve on the GA Council of Aging. Of course this still has to be approved by the GBI and the Council. Hopefully, she will pass the GBI background check ;- ) If she makes it, start making your suggestion lists for what you would like done for Georgia seniors. Her friend, Senator Renee Unterman, is a strong advocate for Seniors and has encouraged Bettye to serve on this Council.
4Allie Jones
Hello all, I am back from a wonderful trip to the Outer Banks which I am beginning to love. Hope you all are happy and well!! Take care and love to you, Allie ;-) :-)This is awesome! We all should think like this.Today is no special day and I have no particular reason for writing to you....
I have no news to tell you....
nor any problems to discuss with you....
or gossip to tell you...
It's only one of those happy moments...
when I thought of you...
and I would like to share these thoughts with you...

4Kay Fulmer
Kay just sent out the following computer news with a photo of a laptop fire that we have all heard about recently.
Kim KomandoThere’s a picture making the rounds via e-mail. It shows a Dell laptop that caught fire at Yahoo! headquarters. Is it a hoax? No, it happened this past week. You can see the extent of the damage in my log. I posted the pic there.Fire in the hull!
For the last several months, there have been numerous reports of laptops catching fire. The problem is that the battery overheats. Yikes!
Now, there is an e-mail making the rounds. It mentions that a Dell laptop was just sitting closed on a desk. It caught fire at Yahoo! headquarters.
The fire department was called. People had to vacate the building for some 45 minutes. It's a very scary picture.
Is it true? Yes, it happened this past week.
Imagine if this happened in your home or office and no one was around. Or worse, you were sleeping.
So, check your laptop maker's site for recall notices. But frankly, that may not be good enough.
Here's why:
A few weeks ago, an IBM Thinkpad went up in flames at the Los Angeles International Airport. A witness said, "The thing immediately flared up like a giant firework for about 15 seconds, then caught fire." Lenova, maker of the Thinkpad, is investigating the matter. Thinkpads are not on the recall list.
I think we need to take some extra steps here.
I told everyone here in the studio who is using a laptop to take the battery out of their laptops and use the power supply only. And be sure to tell your family and friends too! They may not even be aware of the problems with the laptop batteries.
I recently received an email from Laura in Florida thanking me for mentioning it on my show. She was listening to the show on her way to take her iBook to the Apple store for a repair. She mentioned the Apple recall to the reps. They had not heard about it yet.
An ounce of prevention so they say...
Kim

4Martha McCulloughI will not be at Edith's tomorrow. I was really looking forward to going. We all always have so much fun. I went to Mississippi last week and was able to bring my Mother back with me. I had hoped to bring her with me to Edith's but Mother does not feel well. I'm trying to decide how serious her situation is and help her decide what to do about all her aches and pains.Ya'll have fun tomorrow.Martha McCullough
